Uganda Team Update #8 - June 2016

Monday morning the team left the Gulu Region and headed for Paraa Lodge.  After about a three hour bus ride, we arrived at the entrance to Murchison Falls National Park.  As we arrived we were greeted by several elephants.  Once we entered the park, the team had a brief stop to get checked into the park then headed for Paraa Lodge.  On the way we saw many different types of animals from giraffes, Cobbs, Ribbis, Jackson Heart Beast, water buffalo and more elephants.  We arrived at Paraa Lodge, had lunch then took a boat ride on the Nile River heading to Murchison Falls.  On the way we saw many Hippos, Crocodiles and African birds.  Once we reached the falls, we hiked up to the top of the falls.  It was a steep and grueling hike but 27 of the 29 team members made the hike.  The first one up made it in 23 minutes.  I do not want to disclose who that was, but it was me!  Once at the top, we had a great view of the falls which has over 90,000 gallons of water going over the falls every minute..  We then boarded the bus for an hour drive back to Paraa Lodge where we had dinner and sat around a campfire.

Monday morning we were up at 4:30 for a 5:15 Safari Ride.  What an amazing morning as the sun came up over the Nile River.  As the sun rose, we saw many of the same animals we saw yesterday but we also saw a male lion, mother lion and many cubs.  We also saw over 100 giraffes, jackels, herds of water buffalo, herds of Cobbs, and Ribbis, warthogs, and some of us saw three spotted hyena.  It was an amazing time and it was hard to leave this beautiful area of the country.

We took the ferry across the Nile River and made the six hour trip back to Kampala.  We arrived at Tal Cottages about 3:30 and have a few hours to rest and relax before dinner and our final debrief for our trip.

Tomorrow we head to downtown Kampala for some shopping, pizza at Nanos and then head to the airport for our trip back to the states.

This will be our last blog as we will be traveling for the next two days arriving back in Wilmington about 5:00 on Thursday.

This had been my fourth trip to Uganda and I can honestly say this was my best trip.  This trip was amazing and I am proud to have traveled and served with this team in Uganda.  I cannot wait for Uganda 2017.
